      Episode 001: "The Prince Appears"
      summarized by: Rachel
Two young men are playing tennis at Kaginogizaka Tennis Garden. A sign attached to the wall of the court advertises a new Tennis Class. The guys start discussing a rumor about how a 12 year old is going to be playing in a tournament for 16 year olds. One of the guys doesn't think it's possible. On another wall of the court there is an advertisement for the Kaginogizaka Junior Tennis Tournament. They doubt whether the rumor is true. The camera closes in on the match-ups for the upcoming tournament. There it says "Ishii Abare, high high school and that he's 16 and that his first opponent is Echizen Ryoma, no school's name and that he's 12.

A JR train is pulling into a station. 3 rude guys from Kitakoute are discussing tennis grips and moving their rackets around while they talk. A girl is being crowded by them and doesn't say anything. (We later find out it's because she's a wimp.) One of the guys keeps practicing his swing nearly hitting the girl in the face. From across the aisle a voice calls to them. The rude teens and wimpy girl are extremely startled. The voice tells the teens that they are annoying. The teens glare at the person who is a boy wearing a baseball cap with a large tennis bag next to him. The train rattles a bit and the lead obnoxious guy drops his racket. The head guy doesn't seem to think an elementary school kid should be lecturing him. The boy says he is in elementary school and that head obnoxious guy is holding the racket incorrectly for the grip they were discussing. Head obnoxious guy looks stricken and can't believe the boy is talking back to him. The boy explains that not only does head obnoxious guy have the grip wrong he also has the name of the grip wrong. The boy gets off the train at the next stop and the obnoxious guy yells at him as he does. One of his friends teases Sasabe about the boy's remarks and the other friend realizes that this is their stop as well. Sasabe and his friends get off and the wimpy girl suddenly realizes this is her stop as well and also exits.

The wimpy girl is upset because her grandmother is late to meet her. The boy from the train comes up to her and asks her if she knows where Kaginogizaka Tennis Garden is. She remembers him from the train and nearly takes out his eye and then apologizes. She too is going to the Tennis garden and starts babbling to the boy about it. The boy looks startled as she babbles, and finally gets a chance to ask her where it is. She apologizes again and gives him directions, telling him to use the south exit. This is overlaid with a picture of the yellow directional signs in the station. (Note: In Japan at most train stations there are several entrances and exits. There are yellow signs in the station informing passengers which exits are best depending on where they are trying to go.) He makes sure she said south exit, thanks her and leaves. On his bag it says Ryoma E. The wimpy girl ever the brilliant one realizes the boy's name must be Ryoma.

30 minutes later the wimpy girl's grandmother arrives. The grandmother apologizes to Sakuno and starts heading for the north exit. Sakuno is startled. Her grandmother explains that Kaginogizaka is to the north of the station. Sakuno realizes that she is an idiot and gave Ryoma the wrong directions.

When Sakuno and her grandmother get to Kaginogizaka, Sakuno looks around to see if she sees Ryoma. Sakuno asks her grandmother what happens if someone is late to their match and her grandmother informs her it is a default win for the other player. Sakuno is shocked and goes running off. She sees Ryoma lying on the grass and asks him if he made it in time for his game. He tells her he was 5 minutes late. Sakuno apologizes and asks if it was her fault. Ryoma says of course it was. (Yeah I *heart* blunt New Yorkers.) Sakuno feels really stupid and offers to buy him a drink.

At the vending machine Ryoma gets a can of Grape "Ponta". Sakuno thanks Ryoma for his help earlier on the train. Ryoma is confused. Sakuno tells him without his interference Sasabe would have hit her with a racket. Ryoma says "You were on the train?" Sakuno looks miserable (*snerk* get used to it dear he never notices you.) Ryoma says he asked them to be quiet because they were annoying and drinks his "Ponta". Sakuno is depressed. Her moping is interrupted when a can goes flying between them. Sasabe and his two friends are standing behind them. Sasabe sarcastically says he is sorry for being annoying. The fight music starts playing in the background. One of the friends realizes it's the brat from earlier. Sasabe lifts Ryoma's cap with his racket and says Ryoma looks like someone who lost a match. Sasabe brags that he is one of the seeds in the 16 year old match and that he's really good at tennis. Ryoma glares at him and Sasabe starts losing his cool. The longer Ryoma looks at him, the more unnerved Sasabe becomes. He moves to hit Ryoma with his racket and Sakuno cries out and hides her eyes. Ryoma of course, being Ryoma, doesn't flinch. Sakuno is amazed. One of the friends suggests they leave and Sasabe agrees. Ryoma being a snerky boy picks up the empty can and asks Sasabe if he ever got the grip right. Ryoma looks evilly at Sasabe and offers to teach him how to play tennis. Sasabe and friends look really pissed and shocked and Sakuno looks scared.

On the court, one of Sasabe's friends asks if this is all right since Sasabe still has matches left to play. Sasabe says this is just the sort of fun he needs and he and his friends laugh. Sakuno tries to talk Ryoma out of playing but Ryoma feels like he should get to play someone since he came all the way out here. The match gets ready to begin and Sasabe decides that they should self-judge. (Meaning there is no impartial referee to decide what is in and what is out.) Ryoma says it's fine and starts moving his legs slightly. Sasabe promises to go easy on Ryoma and hits an easy serve to him. Ryoma looks at the ball and hits it right just inside Sasabe's line. He tells Sasabe to play for real. Everyone is surprised by Ryoma's extremely accurate shot. Sasabe says he is going to really play now. Sakuno's grandmother appears and wonders where Sakuno was, she decides this game looks interesting and that she is going to stay. Sakuno gets upset because Ryoma is facing a high school student, but her grandmother patiently explains that Ryoma must be quite good because of his return shot.

Ryoma smirks and one of Sasabe's friends suggests he tries to beat Ryoma. Sasabe says of course Ryoma got in a good shot, Sasabe purposely gave him an easy serve. Ryoma says that lots of bad players use that as an excuse for why they lose. Sasabe gets really pissed now and called Ryoma brat. Sasabe does his "bullet serve" which Ryoma easily returns and in fact calls slow. The two volley the ball back and forth and Sasabe's friends are shocked that Ryoma returned the"bullet serve." Ryoma rushes to the net and hits another shot Sasabe misses. Sasabe gets angry when his friend calls the score Love-30 (Love is zero in tennis.) Sakuno is impressed, but her grandmother tells her this is nothing. Sakuno asks her grandmother if she knows Ryoma and her grandmother says that Ryoma is "The Prince of Tennis." Her grandmother tells her Ryoma is 12 years old and has competed in 4 US tournaments and won every single one of them and that he is a "genius boy." Sakuno can't believe he won 4 consecutive tournaments. Sumire explains, that Ryoma is the son of one of her past students and has only recently returned to Japan. (While saying this we get this great fake address in NY where Ryoma use to live.) Sumire explains that the only reason she came to this tournament was to see Ryoma play. Ryoma wins his first game against Sasabe.

Ryoma offers to end the game quickly so Sasabe can play in his tournament game. Sasabe thinks to himself he should have no problem returning this kid's serve. Ryoma serves and Sasabe completely misses it. Sasabe's friends are amazed by the chibi. Sasabe is impressed but is determined to win (The fool!) Sasabe thinks he can use his height as an advantage if he rushes to the net. Ryoma misses the ball and Sasabe smirks evilly. Sasabe is happy because the game is now tied and makes fun of Ryoma. The score becomes 30-40. Ryoma doesn't seem impressed. Sakuno is worried. Sasabe rushes to the net and Ryoma hits the ball over him to come down right on the line. Sumire doesn't seem surprised. Sasabe and friends are concerned that Sasabe is going to lose to a 12 year old. Ryoma hits another ball over Sasabe and even though it is in, Sasabe says it is out. Sakuno tries to argue and Ryoma doesn't say anything. Sumire explains since it is self-judged Sasabe can call it out and not to argue. Sasabe thinks he has won. Ryoma just looks at him. Ryoma hits it high again and Sasabe brags he is calling it out so he's won. The ball comes to a spinning stop right before the line. Sumire is impressed. Ryoma asks if the ball is in. (Damn, I love this boy.) Ryoma continues to win against Sasabe. Sasabe in a fit of anger throws his racket at Ryoma and injures him. Sasabe pretends it is an accident. Sakuno runs to him and Ryoma tells her not to interfere with the game. Bleeding Ryoma stands up and tells Sasabe his grip is bad and he has a lot more work to do. "Mada mada dane." (Note: this is Ryoma's favorite expression and he uses it again and again and again.) Ryoma has now won 5 games. He serves and his ball comes shooting up towards Sasabe's face. Ryoma's second serve does hit Sasabe in the face. ^o^ Sasabe's friends say it was a "Twist Serve." Ryoma keeps serving "Twist Serves" and hitting Sasabe in the face. Sasabe shouts "Stop!" and crouches hiding while it proves Ryoma's final serve is a light serve. Ryoma calls him a fool. Ryoma wins the game. Sasabe tries to pretend he wasn't serious but his friends tell him to give it up. Ryoma offers to play another set and moves the racket from his right hand to his left. Sasabe is shocked. Sumire tells Sasabe he's never going to be able to beat Ryoma. Sumire tells Sasabe that Ryoma is in fact left handed. (He played the game against Sasabe with his right ^o^) Sasabe stares in shock as Ryoma serves again with his left. He starts whimpering and runs away. We flashback to one of Ryoma's past tournaments in the US. Sumire thinks things will be interesting now that Ryoma is back in Japan.

      Episode 002: "Samurai Junior"
      summarized by: Rachel
A man with a camera presents a tennis magazine to Sumire. She tells him he could have just mailed it, but he explains that he needs to keep track of tennis students. Sumire asks him if he is here to spy on her students. He asks her how her students are this year and Sumire doesn't give a straight answer. She's surprised to see an article called "Back to the 80's" The man explains that he personally wrote it. Sumire asks if he doesn't have too much personal interest in the article. The man says that the 80's were a wonderful time for tennis and he personally was a huge fan of Echizen Nanjiroh. He explains how at the time people referred to Echizen as the "Samurai." In flashback, young Nanjiroh wins a tennis match. The reporter is disappointed Echizen retired so young and thinks he could have been the world's number one player if he hadn't retired or at the very least won the "Grand Slam." Sumire looks out the window and says "Echizen Nanjiroh."

The cherry blossoms are falling which means it's a new school year. Ryoma is walking through the courtyard of his new Jr. High School. A boy calls out to Ryoma and comes up to him. He asks if Ryoma is trying out for the tennis team (He's carrying around a tennis bag, what does the boy think?!?) and introduces himself as Horio. Horio explains that this Jr. High is famous for its tennis and then brags that he has 2 years of tennis experience as well as having attended a tennis school. He feels assured that he will become a member of the team. Ryoma ignores him and continues on the path. Ryoma nearly bumps into a an upperclassman who is wearing his school uniform partially open. The upperclassman advises Ryoma to watch where he is walking and then notices Ryoma's large bag and smiles. Ryoma just glares in patently Ryoma fashion. The upperclassman thinks the glare is awful rude but says he'll forgive Ryoma this time because he's only a freshman and smiles and jut tells Ryoma to watch where he's going and leaves. Horio wonders who the upperclassman is. Ryoma just watches him go.

Horio is very impressed with how nice the tennis facilities at Seigaku (Note: The school is Seishun Gakuen, but the team's name is always shortened to Seigaku. I'm not sure why.) He tells Ryoma they should sign-up for the club. Two boys in shorts and T-shirts inform Horio and Ryoma that it isn't possible sign-up right now because all the "Regulars" (The actual members of the tennis team versus the people who belong to the tennis club.) are away at a game. The two younger boys explain they'd like to play some tennis even though the sign-up isn't until tomorrow. Two upperclassmen appear and ask the first years if they're planning on signing up for the tennis club. The taller of the boys in shorts (buzz-cut) introduces himself as Mizuno Katsuo, his companion (bowl-cut) says his name is Kato Katsuro. Horio Satoshi introduces himself and says he is honored to join the famous Seigaku team and tells everyone he has 2 years of tennis experience. The upperclassmen become a bit perturbed when Ryoma doesn't introduce himself. The one with the freckles starts getting really angry, but his companion with the sweat band calms him down and they ask the first years if they'd like to play a game. The rules are simple one has 10 tries to hit a tennis ball container while serving from the other side of the net. The upperclassmen tell them if they succeed they'll get 10,000 yen. (about $85) They explain that this is an initiation rite and that it costs 200 yen ($1.70) to try. The other three first years want to try and Ryoma just glares at the upperclassmen. The upperclassmen laugh evilly and Ryoma glares some more. (Ryoma likes to glare.)

Sakuno is walking with a friend towards the tennis area. Sakuno has suddenly decided she'd like to play tennis. The two girls are stopped by a female reporter who wants to know if they know where the sign-ups are for the tennis team. The two girls looks unsure and the woman introduces herself as Shiba Saori and explains that she is with a tennis magazine. Since Seigaku is famous for its male tennis team, she wants to interview the new players. Unfortunately, she can't find the courts. ^^;; The man from earlier interrupts Shiba and asks what she is doing and whether she's gotten the interview yet. Shiba apologizes to Inoue and explains she can't find the courts.

Buzz cut and Bowl cut are unable to knock down the tennis ball can. Horio can't believe how bad they are and the boys explain they're very new to tennis and the container is quite small. Horio assures them with his 2 years of experience he is sure to knock it over. Ryoma continues to watch. Horio keeps missing as well and Ryoma leans against the fence and relaxes. On Horio's last try, he manages to nick the container but it doesn't fall over. (Everyone is quite surprised he hit it.) Each of the boys offers the 200 yen for their failed tries. Freckles explains that the boys are mistaken. Sweatband turns around the container where it reveals that it was 500 yen ($4.20) a try and they each took 10 tries making it a total of 5000 yen ($42.20) each, the 200 yen was a tryout fee, making a total of 5200 yen ($43.90) a boy. The boys say they don't have that sort of money, and the upperclassmen say to blame their poor tennis skills. The upperclassmen insist that Ryoma give it a try as well. Ryoma says all right and takes out his racket. Horio tries to warn Ryoma. Ryoma explains that one can't just hit the can to knock it over because there are rocks in it. The upperclassmen look startled that Ryoma has realized that. Ryoma hits the top of the container knocking it over as well as knocking off the cap and revealing the rocks inside. (The rocks weight it so that it's very hard to knock over.) Horio is really upset that the upperclassmen cheated and they tell Horio to shut-up. Ryoma hits several more balls at the container and wants to know if he hits it 10 times does he get 100,000 yen. Each one hits the container and knocks it into the air. Horio can't believe that Ryoma has such amazing control. The two upperclassmen get really angry and Ryoma tells them they shouldn't cheat just because they are older. Someone is watching the argument, he hits a ball and not only hits the container but dents it and sends it flying into the wall. A voice calls out that he got it so he must be very lucky. Horio is shocked as it is the upperclassman Ryoma nearly walked into earlier in the episode. He comes up behind Ryoma (who's now looking down) and tells Arai not to bully the cute first years just because the Regulars aren't around. Arai looks very chastened and he and his friend tell Momo they have something to do and leave. Ryoma starts to leave too, but Momo tells him to stay.

Sakuno, her friend, Inoue and Shiba arrive at the courts to see Momo standing with Ryoma. Sakuno is surprised to see Ryoma and her friend wants to know if she knows him. Sakuno's friend wants to be introduced. Sakuno says his name is "Echizen Ryoma" and Inoue seems interested in this. Momo says that Ryoma is shorter than he expected *snerk* Momo introduces himself as Momoshiro Takeshi, a sophomore and says he heard from the "Old Lady" coach that Ryoma can do a "Twist Serve." Horio is impressed and the the other two first years don't know what it is. Ryoma looks back at Momo and smirkingly asks what if he can. Momo promises to crush Ryoma. Everyone is staring in shock and Ryoma does his pissy look.

Ryoma changes into tennis clothes and Momo and Ryoma get ready to being their match and Ryoma picks "smooth". The two frosh are confused and Horio teaches them what smooth means in tennis terminology. (It seems that rather than flipping a coin, the racket is spun and dropped. If the grip side comes up, it's smooth, if not it's rough. And yes one can have a lot of fun reading into that.) Momo wins, but says Ryoma can serve first. Horio can't believe Momo is letting Ryoma serve first, and Momo explains he really wants to see the "Twist Serve" This really impresses Horio. Momo tells them to call him Momo-chan *SNERK* but Horio thinks this is too disrespectful and asks to be umpire. Momo-chan says he can be. Horio gets all formal and announces the game. The two first years think Horio is awful pretentious and full of himself. (It took them this long to realize this o_O) Sakuno, her friend, and the reporters all watch. Ryoma's first serve is out. Momo-chan tells Ryoma he wants a "Twist Serve" not a "Slice Serve" but Ryoma tells him he has to wait. Momo-chan thinks Ryoma is arrogant. Ryoma serves and knocks Momo-chan's racket from his hand. Inoue can't believe Ryoma's "twist serve". Sakuno's friend asks what a "Twist Serve" is and Inoue explains it to her and says it is very hard to hit. (Inoue says a regular serve comes in with a left spin, but a "Twist Serve" turns in the opposite direction and comes in with a topspin.) Sakuno's friend is really impressed with Ryoma now and starts squealing. Momo-chan says this is his first time encountering a a "Twist serve." Momo-chan says he was surprised. Ryoma asks if Momo-chan is all right, because he's sweating. Ryoma smiles and Momo-chan smiles back. (And it's the start of a beautiful friendship XD) Momo-chan is impressed with Ryoma's skills. Momo-chan runs forward and hits the ball, but it hits the net. He lifts his hands to smooth his hair (The patented Momo-chan move) and realizes it's more than timing if he wants to hit Ryoma's "Twist serve." Inoue can't believe Momo-chan who is a "Regular" is losing to Ryoma. Momo-chan hits the next serve and it hits the net and barely goes over. Momo-chan smiles and says he is "Lucky." Everyone is now impressed with Momo-chan. Momo-chan and Ryoma volley the ball between them until Ryoma does one of his light shots just barely knocking the ball over the net. Momo-chan moves towards it but gives up and sits down. He is surprised Ryoma can do a "Drop Volley" as well. Inoue starts snapping pictures of Ryoma and superimposes a picture of Nanjiroh from the 1980's onto Ryoma and realizes they have the same eyes. Inoue finally realizes that Echizen Ryoma must be Echizen Nanjiroh's son.

Nanjiroh carries a tennis racket and walks under the falling cherry petals. He sneezes and looks at the empty tennis court in his yard and sees that he has no opponent. He lays down on a bench to take a nap but pulls out a magazine to flip through until he falls asleep.

Ryoma and Momo-chan's match is almost over and Momo-chan knows things aren't going well for him. Ryoma smirks, switches his racket to his left hand and says "Mada Mada Dane" Sakuno then remembers Ryoma is left-handed. Momo-chan calls for a time out and says they don't need to continue the game because he's forgiven Ryoma. Everyone looks shocked (Well except Ryoma and Momo-chan.) Ryoma says it doesn't matter and gets ready to leave. The other first years are very impressed with him. They ask where he usually plays and he says "The temple." Sakuno Ryuzaki and her friend come up to Ryoma and the friend introduces herself as Osakado Tomoka. Sakuno says she's sorry about last time and Ryoma wonders who she is. Sakuno gets really upset by this. *snerk*

Sumire asks Momo-chan if it's all right that he stopped the game and was losing to Ryoma. Momo-chan says it's all right and Sumire says that he ought to have let people know he was playing at a disadvantage because his right foot is sprained. (Which is why he isn't at the game with the other Regulars.) Momo-chan says it's all right because Ryoma knew, that's why Ryoma was serving with the other hand from the beginning. Momo-chan says again that Ryoma is scary ( in a mock-serious voice like last time) and heads to the locker room. Sumire laughs. Ryoma heads for home. Shiba wonders who Ryoma Echizen is and Inoue says he must be "Samurai Junior."

Nanjiroh rings the bell at the Buddhist temple while looking at a magazine. He wonders where his stupid son is and wonders if Ryoma has gotten a girlfriend. Finally on the way home, Ryoma remembers that yes he did meet Sakuno before.

MomoRyo 3 1/2 hearts. Meeting under the sakura and Ryoma is late because of a "girl"friend *snerk*

Episode 003: "The Seigaku Regular Members Have Arrived"
      summarized by: Rachel

It's a new school day at Seishun Gakuen. A group of 5 older boys are talking about Ryoma. One of them responds that Momo has said that Echizen is not a normal 1st year. One of the boys has faith that if Momo said this, Echizen must be good. Another boy who looks like he is wearing a bathing cap smiles at the others and says that if Echizen is that good, it will be a good thing. The boy who spoke earlier about Momo first replies "Maybe." The boys leave, all are carrying tennis rackets and the last to speak is in the back and has long light brown hair.

Ryoma is heading to the tennis courts and Tomoka is spying on him from a window. She calls Sakuno over and they both watch Ryoma. In another window an older male student with brown hair and glasses is also watching the school's tennis courts. Bowl-cut wonders how they (he, buzz-cut, Horio, and Ryoma) are going to manage getting up to practice tennis each morning. Horio suddenly announces that he thinks Momo-chan wasn't playing at full strength when Momo-chan played Ryoma last episode as Momo-chan had a leg injury. He explains that this is why Momo-chan was at the school while the other Regulars were away at a game. Ryoma pointedly ignores Horio, during Horio's speech. Horio asks Ryoma if he is paying attention and Ryoma replies "No." Horio becomes cross and assures the other first years that Ryoma can't be at the same level as the Seigaku Regulars because Ryoma is only a first year. (Hah!) Horio spouts off for a bit about how talented the Seigaku tennis club is and the other two frosh listen attentively. Both first year twins would like to see the Regulars play. In a bid for more attention, Horio, tells them that each month the Regulars play in a ranking competition and only the top players in this competition get to be Regulars. Ryoma gets up and leaves. A group of other first years come up to Horio impressed with his knowledge. Ryoma is not impressed. A pissed off upperclassman asks Ryoma is he is the so-called "Amazing First Year." Ryoma says no and points to Horio and says that Horio is. The upperclassman agrees, while Horio continues to babble about how Seigaku is always in the top 5 schools in Kanto. (With Hyotei and Yamabuki I would assume.) Horio starts to brag about how he wants to play the Seigaku captain at the rankings tournament and brags he might even be able to get a point. o_O The cranky upperclassman who talked to Ryoma earlier tells Horio to be quiet. The upperclassman says that first years aren't allowed in the ranking tournaments, they're only allowed to fetch balls. Arai comes up to the cranky upperclassman and asks him what he's doing. He tries to explain that he is talking to the showoff first year, but Arai says that the first year who played Momo-chan is the one with the hat on. This pisses off the cranky upperclassman more since it was Ryoma who told him the amazing first year was Horio.

In the Seigaku clubhouse, Horio is bragging about how wonderful Tezuka the captain of Seigaku is and the first year twins are getting sick of hearing it finally. Horio tries to start a conversation with Ryoma about the fact that Ryoma has been awful rude to the upperclassmen and Ryoma of course ignores him. When Horio notices that Ryoma is sitting on Arai's jersey while he ties his shoe, Horio starts having conniptions. Ryoma isn't impressed and leaves them. Horio tries to impress on Ryoma what a problem this is and steps on an old racket lying on the ground. Much to their relief the racket is really old and does not belong to Arai-sempai or any of the other players. The boys go dashing out of the clubhouse and Horio runs right into an upperclassman. It's Arai who is in a pissy mood. The 3 first years cower, and then Ryoma walks by unimpressed. Arai becomes really angry now because Ryoma isn't showing him proper respect. The other 3 first years make a dash for it. Arai becomes really pissed when he sees his jersey is a mess. Arai complains that it's because of that rotten first year Momo-chan doesn't like him anymore *SNERK* Arai wants to embarrass Ryoma in front of everyone because he's really angry.

Later that day, Shiba and Inoue show up at the school ready to take pictures. In a class room, Sumire is sitting near the male student with glasses from before and the boy who looked liked he was wearing a bathing cap. Sumire asks Tezuka how he plans to divide up the players for the ranking tournaments. The boy with the odd hair asks Sumire if she has any particular players in mind for the ranking tournaments, like for example among the first years. Sumire says it doesn't matter what she thinks, as technically first years aren't allowed to enter the ranking tournaments until the summer. The boy says not if the captain makes an exception and smiles at Tezuka. Tezuka ignores both Sumire and the other boy.

Horio is gasping exhausted from practice. Ryoma isn't impressed and says "Mada Mada Dane." The boys are then told they have to do sit-ups much to their despair. Inoue and Shiba walk by and check out Ryoma. Inoue says it's too bad that first years can't compete in the ranking tournament. Ryoma finishes his 50 sit-ups as Horio starts getting really excited. Arai and his two cronies from the clubhouse have arrived on court. Arai becomes annoyed about Ryoma's rackets and announces that Ryoma thinks he is talented but he's not, the Regulars are back and they're the real talent at Seigaku. Arai(who uses the honorific "sama" after his name. o_O ) tells Ryoma that he is going to show him. Before Arai can finish this statement though the Regulars arrive. (Note: To me the red, white and blue Seigaku uniforms just look so USA, but I'm sure that is just me.) The first year twins look like they're about to die from happiness overload. It's the 5 boys we saw talking at the very beginning of the episode. At their front is a very disgruntled looking boy in a bandana. Ryoma watches them not completely impressed. Inoue states the obvious that the Regulars have arrived. All of the tennis club welcomes them. The boy in the swim cap tells the assembled members that he wants them all to feel welcome so they're all welcome to practice on any free court. The first years are pleased with this bounty. Horio points to the boy and announces that he is the invincible captain from last year Tezuka. Buzz cut is really impressed with the "captain." The brown haired-boy asks Oishi if he would like to warm up and Oishi tells Fuji that that sounds like a good idea until Tezuka arrives. The first year twins say that that guy wasn't the captain and Horio blushes and pointedly ignores them. Everyone stops what they are doing to watch Oishi and Fuji and the other three regulars practice. Oishi is hitting balls to them and they are hitting them back into the ball basket. O_O Horio is mightily impressed. Arai states proudly that this is his sempai's skill and yells to Ryoma that he can't compare to Seigaku's current Regulars. Ryoma glares. Oishi hits a ball a little long and Ryoma hits it into the basket just like the Regulars were. Horio and the first year twins are extremely impressed and even the Regulars stare. Ryoma smirks and says that that was easy and Arai gets pissy and grabs him by his shirt. A voice asks what is going on and Arai turns to see that Tezuka has arrived. Everyone shows proper deference and Tezuka says in punishment Arai and Ryoma are to run 10 laps around the tennis courts. Arai tries to get out of it and Tezuka increases it to 20 laps and tells everyone to start warming up. Horio is in love. Oishi calls Tezuka aside to talk and Arai is now really annoyed since he was punished by Tezuka. Arai comes up with an evil plot to get revenge.

Ryoma is doing his laps. He comes back to find that the first years are supposed to practice swinging their rackets 100 times. Ryoma looks for his racket but it is gone. Arai and his cronies start making jokes about how Ryoma must think he's really good not to have even brought a racket. Ryoma glares at them. Horio knows there is going to be trouble. Arai challenges Ryoma to a game. He says if Ryoma is so sure that he didn't bring a racket with him he can play with anything and gives Ryoma the old beat-up racket from earlier. The first years are all horrified for Ryoma and Arai continues to try and taunt Ryoma. Ryoma looks really pissed. The redheaded Regular motions to the Regular in the thick glasses. The redheaded Regular says that Arai is causing problems for the First Year again. The Regular in the glasses wants to know if they should take care of it, but the redheaded one says that Tezuka will handle it when he comes back. (Way to pass the buck or should I say yen.) Fuji thinks this looks interesting and the boy in the bandana makes an obnoxious noise. Arai tells Ryoma to stop acting self-important and that if Ryoma is lucky maybe he'll see his 3 rackets again. Ryoma is *REALLY* pissed now and starts walking away. Horio wants to know where he is going and Ryoma says that some people just like to play tricks on other people. Arai understands what Ryoma is saying and gets indignant. Ryoma asks Arai if they are going to play or not and Arai is taken aback. Fuji says he wants to see this.

Arai tells Ryoma he is going to crush him. The first years are worried. Shiba thinks he has no chance and Tomoka and Sakuno show-up to see what Ryoma is doing as well. Arai hits the ball and Ryoma hits the ball and it hits the net and bounces away. Arai is overconfident and hits it to Ryoma again and Ryoma returns the ball so that it is out of bounds. The Regular in glasses thinks Ryoma has no chance also. Fuji says the problem is one can't put the correct spin on the ball. Arai is really happy because Ryoma is finally going to be embarrassed in front of everyone. Aria tells Ryoma not to act so calm since he is going to lose badly and hits another ball, this time Ryoma turns his body and hits a good shot which Arai promptly misses. Everyone is extremely impressed. Some of the upperclassmen wonder if the racket was really a junk racket. Another wonders how fast the ball was. Ryoma of course doesn't think the shot was fast and Arai is now feeling stupid and peevish. He hits the ball and Ryoma hits a shot Arai missed again. Fuji says a "A great calligrapher isn't because of his brush." The Regular in glasses feels sure that Ryoma will eventually be a Regular. (Little does he realize...)

Arai is not dealing well and crumples onto the court. The Regular in the bandana turns away from the game pissed. He feels that the game is making the 2nd years look bad. The Regular in the glasses calls after Kaidoh, but Kaidoh just leaves. Ryoma tells Arai he is just warming up. Arai wants to end the game now, and Ryoma says "No." (Go and get your revenge on the court Ryoma, we know you want to...)

Oishi and Tezuka are watching Ryoma play. Oishi wants to know what Tezuka thinks and Tezuka says everyone has to run laps for breaking the rules. Oishi asks if even the Regulars have to and Tezuka says "Everyone." Oishi is rather surprised. Sumire looks at the players chosen for the ranking tournament and sees Ryoma's name.

MomoRyo 1/2 heart. Momo-chan isn't in this episode, but Arai says that Momo-chan doesn't like him anymore now that he's met Ryoma *SNERK*
